What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial explores whether self-hypnosis can manage migraines without medication. Participants will join group video sessions to learn self-hypnosis techniques for home practice. The goal is to determine if this method reduces migraine-related disability and improves overall quality of life compared to those on a waitlist. This trial may suit adults who have experienced migraines for over a year, can speak French, and have a steady internet connection. As an unphased trial, it offers a unique opportunity to explore innovative migraine management techniques without medication.

What prior data suggests that this self-hypnosis program is safe for migraine management?

Research has shown that using hypnosis to manage migraines is generally safe. Studies have found that hypnosis can reduce migraine symptoms and pain without causing side effects. Since hypnosis doesn't involve medication, it avoids the risks of negative reactions often associated with drugs. Self-hypnosis, a component of the HYlaMI program, promotes relaxation and emotional control, providing an effective and safe method for managing migraine symptoms.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about HYlaMI because it offers a non-drug approach to managing migraines through self-hypnosis, which is very different from standard treatments like medications. Unlike pills that target the physical aspects of migraines, HYlaMI focuses on training the mind to manage pain through telehealth sessions and self-practice at home. This method could empower individuals to take control of their migraine management, potentially reducing reliance on medications and minimizing side effects. Plus, the convenience of learning self-hypnosis at home makes it an accessible option for many people.

What evidence suggests that the HYlaMI program is effective for managing migraines?

Studies have shown that hypnosis can help reduce migraine symptoms. In one study, 27% of participants reported their migraine attacks stopped after a few hypnosis sessions, and 50% experienced fewer attacks. Another study found that hypnotherapy greatly improved migraine symptoms. Research also suggests that hypnosis can relieve headaches and improve quality of life as effectively as some medications. In this trial, participants in the HYlaMI Intervention Group will attend eight weekly group telehealth sessions and practice self-hypnosis at home. Overall, hypnosis might be a promising option for those seeking non-drug treatments for migraines.25678

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

This trial is for adults who have been diagnosed with migraines for over a year. Participants should be able to join group video sessions and practice self-hypnosis at home. People with other major health issues or those unable to participate in telehealth sessions may not be eligible.
