What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial explores how music and mindfulness can improve mental health in children and adolescents with ADHD or anxiety. The researchers aim to determine if these practices can reduce anxiety and depression while enhancing overall well-being. Participants will attend regular meditation sessions with music and track changes in mood and sleep patterns. This trial suits children aged 8-12 who have ADHD or anxiety and have not regularly practiced meditation before. As an unphased trial, it offers a unique opportunity for children to explore new ways to enhance their mental well-being.

Do I have to stop taking my current medications for the trial?

The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications. It's best to discuss this with the trial coordinators or your doctor.

What prior data suggests that this music mindfulness intervention is safe for children and adolescents?

A previous study demonstrated that mindfulness meditation positively affects mental health by reducing anxiety and depression. Research shows that meditation can enhance psychological well-being. However, some studies report that 25-87% of people who practice meditation experience negative effects. These effects can range from mild discomfort to more serious issues, with 3-37% experiencing problems that impact daily life.

Additionally, mindfulness meditation has proven as effective as some medications for treating anxiety disorders and is generally considered safe. While most participants do not experience severe negative effects, awareness of potential negative experiences is important. Always consult a healthcare provider about medical history and concerns before joining a trial.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about using music mindfulness for mental health issues because it combines meditation with music, which is a fresh approach compared to standard treatments like medication and traditional talk therapy. This treatment is unique because it offers a blend of in-person guided meditation sessions and virtual music-backed meditations, giving participants a flexible and immersive experience. The incorporation of music aims to enhance relaxation and mindfulness, potentially making it more engaging and accessible for individuals who might struggle with conventional meditation techniques.

What evidence suggests that music mindfulness interventions are effective for mental health issues?

This trial will evaluate the effects of in-person meditation sessions with recorded music on mental health. Studies have shown that practicing mindfulness meditation, especially with music, can improve mental health. Research indicates it can lead to small improvements in anxiety and depression, enhance sleep quality, and promote emotional balance. Mindfulness can change the brain in ways that boost well-being and reduce stress. Some studies even suggest it can be as effective as other treatments for conditions like PTSD. Overall, meditation with music appears to positively impact mental health.12367
