What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial aims to determine if the supplements Alpha Brain and Alpha Brain 2.0 can enhance thinking skills, alertness, and mood in individuals experiencing sleep deprivation. The study will compare these supplements to a placebo (a pill with no active ingredients) to assess their effects during lack of sleep. The trial seeks healthy adults who can read and write in English, have no chronic diseases, and are willing to arrive at the lab sleep-deprived (with 5 hours of sleep or less). Participants should also avoid alcohol and caffeine before testing days. As an unphased trial, this study offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the scientific understanding of cognitive enhancement during sleep deprivation.

Will I have to stop taking my current medications?

Yes, you will need to stop taking any prescription medications or dietary supplements that might affect cognitive performance or influence cognition at least four weeks before the study starts.

Is there any evidence suggesting that this trial's treatments are likely to be safe?

Research shows that Alpha Brain and Alpha Brain 2.0 are usually well-tolerated by users. Earlier studies found that the most common side effects were mild, including headaches, upset stomach, and trouble sleeping. No strong evidence indicates that these supplements cause lasting harm.

However, limited information exists about the long-term safety of these brain-boosting supplements. For those planning long-term use, regular consultations with a doctor are advisable to ensure safety.

Overall, these supplements appear safe for short-term use, but consulting a healthcare provider before starting any new supplement is always wise, especially for individuals with other health issues or those taking medications.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial's treatments?

Researchers are excited about Alpha Brain and Alpha Brain 2.0 as potential treatments for sleep deprivation because they differ from traditional options like prescription sleep aids and behavioral therapies. Unlike these common treatments, which often focus on inducing sleep through sedatives or altering sleep habits, Alpha Brain supplements are dietary and aim to enhance cognitive function and mental clarity. Alpha Brain supplements are unique because they are administered as oral capsules containing a blend of natural ingredients thought to support brain health. This approach could offer a natural alternative that enhances mental performance without the side effects typically associated with conventional sleep aids.

What evidence suggests that this trial's treatments could be effective for sleep deprivation?

Research has shown that Alpha Brain can enhance memory and thinking skills in healthy adults. One study found that participants who took Alpha Brain for six weeks had better memory recall than those who did not. In this trial, participants will receive either Alpha Brain or Alpha Brain 2.0, both designed to boost brain function without stimulants, which is beneficial when fatigue sets in. Alpha Brain 2.0 also aids memory, particularly when sleep is lacking. Although Alpha Brain did not improve shooting accuracy, it has shown promise in enhancing thinking skills, which are crucial when sleep-deprived.12567

Timeline for a Trial Participant

Screening

Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial

1-2 weeks

Treatment

Participants undergo three experimental conditions: Alpha Brain, Alpha Brain 2.0, and placebo, each separated by a minimum 3-day washout period. Cognitive testing, mood assessments, and safety monitoring are conducted following overnight sleep restriction.

3 visits with a minimum 3-day washout period between each
3 visits (in-person)

Follow-up

Participants are monitored for safety and effectiveness after treatment

What Are the Treatments Tested in This Trial?

Interventions

  • Alpha Brain
  • Alpha Brain 2.0

Trial Overview

The study tests the immediate effects of Alpha Brain and Alpha Brain 2.0 dietary supplements versus placebo on thinking skills and mood in healthy adults after short-term sleep deprivation. It uses a randomized, double-blind crossover design so each participant tries all interventions.
