Prehabilitation for Pancreatic Cancer
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial tests a program called Multimodal Prehabilitation, designed to strengthen people with pancreatic cancer before surgery while they undergo chemotherapy. The program emphasizes physical fitness, nutrition, and symptom management to enhance recovery and overall experience. It aims to determine if patients can adhere to the program and if it speeds up post-surgery recovery. This trial suits adults with pancreatic cancer who plan to undergo chemotherapy and surgery and can safely exercise. As an unphased trial, it offers a unique opportunity for patients to improve their pre-surgery strength and recovery experience.
Do I have to stop taking my current medications for the trial?
The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications. It's best to discuss this with the trial coordinators or your doctor.
What prior data suggests that this prehabilitation program is safe for patients with pancreatic cancer?
Research has shown that prehabilitation programs, which involve various types of preparation before surgery, are generally safe for people with pancreatic cancer. In one study, participants experienced no negative effects during the program, indicating it is well-tolerated. Another study found that prehabilitation can help reduce serious complications after surgery, suggesting a positive impact on safety. Although surgery for pancreatic cancer can be challenging, the prehabilitation program appears to be a safe method to enhance recovery.12345
Why are researchers excited about this trial?
Researchers are excited about the Multimodal Prehabilitation Program for pancreatic cancer because it offers a proactive approach that combines exercise, nutrition, and psychological support before surgery. Unlike the standard treatment options, which primarily focus on chemotherapy and surgery, this program aims to boost patients' overall fitness and mental well-being during neoadjuvant chemotherapy. By enhancing patients' physical and mental resilience, this method could lead to better surgical outcomes and faster recovery times.
What evidence suggests that this prehabilitation program is effective for pancreatic cancer?
Research has shown that a program called multimodal prehabilitation can benefit people with pancreatic cancer. This program includes physical exercise, nutritional support, and psychological support. Studies have found that patients who participated in prehabilitation experienced fewer complications after surgery. For example, one study found that only 9.8% of patients who underwent prehabilitation had heart or lung problems, compared to those who did not. Another study demonstrated that patients recovered better around the time of surgery. This approach is safe and practical, improving physical function and recovery. Participants in this trial will receive a structured prehabilitation program during neoadjuvant chemotherapy before planned pancreatic cancer surgery.13467

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?
This trial is for adults (18+) with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma who are medically stable, can exercise, and are scheduled to get chemotherapy before planned surgery. Participants must be able to understand English and provide consent. People who are pregnant or have serious heart or lung problems can't join.Inclusion Criteria
