What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial examines the effects of a supplement called geranylgeraniol (GG) on muscle strength, body composition, and aerobic capacity in healthy individuals. Participants will take either a placebo, 150 mg, or 300 mg of GG daily for 8 weeks to determine if GG can enhance physical performance. This trial suits physically active individuals aged 30-60 who exercise moderately at least four times a week. As an unphased trial, it provides an opportunity to contribute to understanding the potential health benefits of GG in active individuals.

Do I have to stop taking my current medications for the trial?

The trial does not specify if you need to stop taking your current medications. However, you cannot participate if you have recently started or changed the dosage of certain medications like statins or hypertension drugs within the past 6 months.

Is there any evidence suggesting that this trial's treatments are likely to be safe?

Research has shown that geranylgeraniol (GG) is generally safe for people. The FDA has labeled it as Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS), indicating its safety for use. Studies have found that GG does not significantly affect blood chemistry or hormone levels in adults. In an 8-week human trial, GG demonstrated a strong safety record, with no major side effects reported. However, limited information exists on its long-term safety, prompting researchers to recommend further studies to confirm its safety over a longer period. Overall, GG appears well-tolerated in the short term without significant negative effects.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about geranylgeraniol (GG) for muscle health because it offers a novel approach compared to standard treatments like protein supplements and resistance training. Unlike these existing methods, geranylgeraniol is a naturally occurring compound in the body that plays a crucial role in cell function and energy production. By directly enhancing cellular health, GG could improve muscle strength and recovery more effectively than traditional supplements. Additionally, its unique mechanism of action might provide benefits with fewer side effects, making it a promising candidate for boosting muscle health.

What evidence suggests that geranylgeraniol could be effective for muscle health?

This trial will compare the effects of different doses of geranylgeraniol (GG) with a placebo on muscle health. Research has shown that GG may help maintain muscle health by preventing damage and reducing swelling. One study found that GG protected muscles from fatigue, especially when affected by certain medications. GG also increases cellular energy, potentially improving strength and endurance. Additionally, GG's involvement in energy production and vitamin creation could help maintain muscle mass and support better physical performance. While much research has focused on animals, these findings suggest possible benefits for human muscle health.14567

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

This trial is for healthy, physically active men and women aged 30-60 with a BMI between 18.5 and 29.9. Participants must exercise regularly, avoid certain supplements and foods like pomegranate juice, agree to keep their diet the same during the study, and be able to follow all study instructions.

Inclusion Criteria

* Subject agrees to maintain their existing dietary patterns throughout the study period.
I agree not to have alcohol, caffeine, or exercise hard for 24 hours before each test.
* Is physically active, defined as at least 30 min of moderate exercise on at least 4 days a week.

Trial Overview

The study tests whether taking daily geranylgeraniol (GG) supplements at two different doses (150 mg or 300 mg) improves muscle strength, body composition, and aerobic fitness compared to a placebo over an 8-week period. Participants are randomly assigned to one of three groups.
