What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial explores whether maintaining a headache diary can reduce migraines' impact on daily life. Participants will use a virtual headache journal and complete online surveys over several months. It is designed for adults diagnosed with migraines for at least three months, regardless of frequency. For those who experience migraines regularly, this trial could provide insights and potentially improve quality of life. As an unphased trial, it offers a unique opportunity to contribute to research that may enhance migraine management and improve daily living.

What prior data suggests that this headache diary is safe for use in migraine patients?

Previous studies have shown that using a headache diary is safe and helps people effectively track migraine symptoms. Research indicates that headache diaries, whether as apps or paper journals, involve simply recording details about headache episodes. This simplicity makes them very low-risk, as they don't require medication or medical procedures. The studies report no negative effects from using a headache diary. It is an easy tool that helps identify patterns in migraines without causing harm.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Most treatments for migraines involve medications like triptans or preventive drugs, which aim to reduce the frequency or intensity of attacks. However, the headache diary is unique because it empowers patients to track their migraine patterns and potential triggers in real time using a virtual platform. This method encourages active patient engagement and self-awareness, which could potentially lead to better management of migraines without the side effects associated with medication. Researchers are excited about this approach because it might help identify personal triggers and patterns, offering a personalized, non-invasive way to manage migraines.

What evidence suggests that using a headache diary is effective for managing migraines?

Research has shown that keeping a headache diary can greatly benefit people with migraines. In this trial, participants will use a virtual headache calendar/journal to assess its impact on their migraine burden. Studies have found that tracking headache symptoms, frequency, and severity can help identify patterns and triggers over time. For example, one study found a digital headache diary to be 98% effective in distinguishing between regular headache days and migraine days, almost always correctly identifying when a migraine occurs. By recording this information, individuals can collaborate with their doctors to better manage their migraines and potentially reduce headache frequency.13456
