What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial explores a new treatment for individuals with a specific heart rhythm problem called monomorphic ventricular tachycardia (MMVT), which can occur after a heart attack. The treatment uses a special device, the Sphere-9 Catheter and Affera Ablation System, to target and correct the heart's rhythm. Ideal participants have experienced a heart attack, continue to have recurrent MMVT despite medication or other interventions, and have an implantable cardiac defibrillator (ICD).

As an unphased trial, this study provides patients the chance to contribute to groundbreaking research that could lead to innovative treatments for heart rhythm problems.

Do I need to stop my current medications for the trial?

The trial does not specify if you need to stop taking your current medications. However, it mentions that participants should have recurrent ventricular tachycardia despite taking certain antiarrhythmic drugs, which suggests you may continue your current medications.

What prior data suggests that the Sphere-9 Catheter and Affera Ablation System is safe for ventricular tachycardia?

Previous studies have shown promising safety results for the Sphere-9 Catheter and Affera Ablation System. Research indicates that the Sphere-9 Catheter has a low rate of safety issues, with serious complications occurring in only 1.4% of cases, meaning serious problems were rare among patients. Another study found major complications in only 6% of patients, which is considered low for these treatments.

Additionally, 65.5% of patients did not experience ventricular tachycardia (a type of fast heart rhythm) again after using this system. This suggests that the treatment is not only safe but may also help prevent future heart rhythm problems.

These findings provide strong evidence that the Sphere-9 Catheter and Affera Ablation System are well-tolerated and have a favorable safety profile for patients with ventricular tachycardia.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about the Sphere-9 Catheter with the Affera Mapping and Ablation System because it offers a novel approach to treating ventricular tachycardia. Unlike traditional treatments that often rely on separate tools for mapping and ablation, this system integrates both functions into a single device, potentially simplifying the procedure and improving precision. Additionally, the Affera system's advanced mapping technology aims to identify abnormal heart tissue more accurately, which could lead to better outcomes and fewer complications for patients. This integration and precision set it apart from the standard catheter ablation techniques currently used.

What evidence suggests that the Sphere-9 Catheter and Affera Ablation System is effective for ventricular tachycardia?

Research has shown that the Sphere-9 Catheter and Affera Ablation System, which trial participants will receive, hold promise for treating ventricular tachycardia, a type of irregular heartbeat. One study found that 89% of patients could no longer have this abnormal heart rhythm triggered after the procedure. Another report indicated that 78% of patients remained free from irregular heartbeats three months after treatment. Additionally, 65.5% of patients did not experience a return of the condition within 12 months. These findings suggest the treatment effectively reduces episodes of ventricular tachycardia.12346

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

This trial is for adults aged 18–85 who have had a heart attack in the past, have an implanted defibrillator, and continue to experience certain types of dangerous fast heart rhythms (ventricular tachycardia) despite medication or device treatment. Participants must be able to follow all study procedures.

Inclusion Criteria

I am willing and able to follow all study testing requirements.
I have had a sustained episode of monomorphic ventricular tachycardia in the past 6 months.
I still have recurring ventricular tachycardia despite medication or ICD treatment.
