OCT Devices for Eye Cancer
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial aims to compare two devices used for optical coherence tomography (OCT), a scanning method that creates images of the back of the eye. These devices may help doctors better detect and monitor eye cancers. Participants will test the Heidelberg Spectralis OCT and the Intalight Dream OCT. This trial suits individuals with at least one eye tumor, either inside or on the surface, who can sit still for about two minutes. As an unphased trial, it offers a unique opportunity to advance eye cancer detection technology.
Do I have to stop taking my current medications for the trial?
The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications. It's best to discuss this with the trial coordinators or your doctor.
What prior data suggests that these OCT devices are safe for eye cancer detection?
Previous studies have shown that both the Heidelberg Spectralis OCT and the Intalight Dream OCT are safe and easy to use for eye imaging. Research indicates that these devices are noninvasive, meaning they do not involve surgery or breaking the skin, which generally ensures patient safety.
For the Heidelberg Spectralis OCT, studies have confirmed its ability to consistently provide accurate results without causing harm. Similarly, the Intalight Dream OCT has received approval for use in the EU, indicating it meets safety standards there.
Both devices offer advanced imaging for the eye, enabling doctors to see and track tumors without causing negative side effects. This makes them promising options for those considering participation in a clinical trial for eye cancer monitoring.12345Why are researchers excited about this trial?
Researchers are excited about the OCT devices for eye cancer because they offer a non-invasive way to capture detailed images of ocular tumors. Unlike traditional methods that might rely on biopsies or less precise imaging, the Heidelberg Spectralis OCT and Intalight Dream OCT provide high-resolution scans that can help in assessing tumor size and progression without surgery. These devices are particularly promising because they allow for real-time monitoring, potentially leading to more personalized and timely treatment adjustments for patients.
What evidence suggests that these OCT devices are effective for eye cancer?
This trial will evaluate the effectiveness of two OCT devices for detecting and monitoring eye cancers. Participants will be assessed using either the Heidelberg Spectralis OCT or the Intalight Dream OCT. Studies have shown that the Heidelberg Spectralis OCT provides detailed images, aiding doctors in identifying different types of eye tumors and improving visibility through cataracts. Meanwhile, the Intalight Dream OCT offers a wide view of the retina, which is crucial for locating eye tumors. Both devices have demonstrated manageable side effects, making them promising options for managing eye cancer.12345

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?
This trial is for adults (18 or older) who have a tumor in at least one eye, can keep their eyes open and still for about 2 minutes, can focus on a target, and whose pupils can dilate enough for imaging. People must not have any condition that blocks the view of the back of the eye.Inclusion Criteria
