What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial tests an AI-enhanced version of the Medilepsy® app to determine if it helps adolescents and young adults with epilepsy manage their condition more effectively. Researchers aim to discover whether this version improves medication adherence and readiness for adult care transition compared to the standard app without AI. The trial seeks participants in Florida who have epilepsy, take anti-seizure medication, and belong to an underserved community. Those who meet these criteria and can use a mobile device may find this trial suitable. As an unphased trial, this study provides a unique opportunity to contribute to innovative research that could enhance epilepsy management for many.

Will I have to stop taking my current medications?

The trial does not specify if you need to stop taking your current medications. However, since participants must be currently prescribed anti-seizure medicine, it seems likely that you will continue your current medication.

What prior data suggests that the AI-personalized version of the Medilepsy® app is safe for adolescents and young adults with epilepsy?

Research has shown that AI chatbots can aid in epilepsy care. Studies exploring AI tools in epilepsy management have found them safe and beneficial for patients. The AI-powered Medilepsy® app offers personalized tips and educational content to help individuals manage their condition. No known negative effects have emerged from using this type of AI technology, suggesting that the Medilepsy® app is likely well-tolerated.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

The Medilepsy® Chatbot AI-Enhanced treatment is unique because it uses artificial intelligence to personalize intervention strategies for epilepsy management. Unlike the standard epilepsy treatments, which often include medications like antiepileptic drugs (such as valproate or lamotrigine), this AI-driven approach focuses on improving patient engagement and adherence to treatment plans through a mobile app. Researchers are excited about this treatment because it has the potential to provide real-time, tailored support for individuals, which could improve outcomes and quality of life for those living with epilepsy.

What evidence suggests that the AI-enhanced Medilepsy® app is effective for epilepsy?

Research has shown that AI-powered chatbots, like the improved Medilepsy® app, can greatly enhance epilepsy care. In this trial, participants in the intervention group will use the AI-personalized version of the Medilepsy® app. A study on a similar AI chatbot called EpiloBot found that it provided helpful information about epilepsy and emotional support. Participants in that study gained a better understanding and improved attitudes toward epilepsy. Another study demonstrated that AI chatbots serve as trustworthy sources of information about epilepsy and exercise. These findings suggest that the AI-enhanced Medilepsy® app could effectively help young people with epilepsy adhere to their treatment plans and prepare for adulthood.12678
