Coronary CTA for Coronary Artery Disease
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial explores how an AI-guided scan, called Coronary CT Angiography (Coronary CTA), can identify heart problems in individuals who were once high-intensity athletes. The goal is to determine if this scan effectively detects plaque buildup in former athletes who competed at a high level, such as NFL players or Division I college athletes. Suitable candidates include former professional or collegiate athletes with a history of intense competition. Participants must hold their breath for more than 10 seconds and should not have certain health conditions, such as severe kidney issues or uncontrolled heart rhythms. As an unphased trial, this study provides a unique opportunity for former athletes to contribute to groundbreaking research that could improve heart health assessments.
Do I need to stop my current medications for the trial?
The trial does not specify if you need to stop your current medications. However, if you have a contraindication (reason not to use) to beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, or nitroglycerin, you may not be eligible to participate.
What prior data suggests that Coronary CTA is safe for screening in former high-intensity athletes?
Research has shown that Coronary CT Angiography (CCTA) is generally safe for patients. As a non-invasive test, CCTA does not involve surgery or instruments entering the body, making it less risky than more invasive tests.
Studies have found that starting with CCTA and then conducting additional tests if needed does not lead to more serious heart problems, such as heart attacks. In simpler terms, undergoing a CCTA does not appear to increase heart issues.
CCTA provides clear images of the heart and arteries, allowing doctors to identify blockages or plaque without surgery. This accuracy helps ensure patients receive the correct diagnosis and care.
Overall, CCTA is well-tolerated with few reported problems. It is a safe choice for assessing heart health, especially for those who wish to avoid more invasive procedures.12345Why are researchers excited about this trial?
Coronary CTA is unique because it uses advanced imaging techniques combined with AI software to analyze coronary plaques and assess ischemia in patients. Unlike traditional methods like stress tests or invasive angiography, this non-invasive approach provides detailed images of the coronary arteries, allowing for more precise plaque quantification. Researchers are excited about this technique as it could lead to earlier detection and more personalized treatment plans for coronary artery disease, potentially improving patient outcomes without the need for invasive procedures.
What evidence suggests that Coronary CTA is effective for coronary artery disease?
Studies have shown that coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA) effectively diagnoses coronary artery disease (CAD). It surpasses other methods in accuracy for detecting coronary artery issues. Research indicates that coronary CTA can reduce hospital stays and death rates in CAD patients. As a non-invasive and reliable alternative to traditional, more invasive procedures, this method assesses risk by examining coronary plaque, a major factor in heart disease. Overall, coronary CTA is widely regarded as a better and safer option for evaluating heart health. Participants in this trial will undergo coronary CTA to assess plaque quantification and ischemia analysis using AI software.678910
Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?
This trial is for adults age 30 or older who used to be professional or high-level college athletes. People can't join if they have certain heart rhythm problems, kidney issues, are pregnant, allergic to contrast dye, very heavy (over 450 lbs), can't hold their breath for over 10 seconds, or can't take some heart medications.Inclusion Criteria
