What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial tests a new method to help young cancer survivors improve communication with friends and peers. It combines asynchronous coaching sessions with artificial intelligence (AI) tools, specifically Yoodli coach sessions, to enhance communication skills. The researchers aim to determine if these methods can support cancer survivors in daily interactions. Individuals who completed cancer treatment at least a year ago and receive care at Penn State may be suitable candidates, particularly if they have internet access and are comfortable using English. As an unphased trial, this study provides a unique opportunity to explore innovative communication tools that could enhance daily life.

Do I need to stop my current medications for this trial?

The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications. It seems focused on communication coaching rather than medication changes.

What prior data suggests that this communication coaching intervention is safe for adolescent/young adult cancer survivors?

Research has shown that asynchronous coaching and AI Yoodli coach sessions are generally safe. In one study with cancer survivors, 26 participants attended most of their coaching sessions, indicating the program's practicality and positive reception. Another study, primarily involving breast cancer survivors, found that participants engaged actively and reported few problems. These findings suggest that this type of coaching is well-tolerated and does not cause significant side effects. Participants found the coaching helpful, indicating its safety and effectiveness.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about the Communication Coaching for Cancer Survivors trial because it explores a novel approach to improving communication skills in cancer survivors, using asynchronous coaching and AI-driven Yoodli coach sessions. Unlike traditional methods that might involve in-person therapy or group sessions, this approach leverages technology to offer flexible, personalized coaching that can fit into anyone's schedule. The integration of AI provides immediate, tailored feedback, which can enhance learning and adaptation in real-time. This innovative method could revolutionize how we support cancer survivors in their communication challenges, offering potentially more effective and accessible options.

What evidence suggests that this communication coaching intervention is effective for improving communication quality in adolescent/young adult cancer survivors?

Research has shown that AI tools like the Yoodli coach, combined with online coaching, can effectively assist cancer survivors. In this trial, participants will receive asynchronous coaching and AI Yoodli coach sessions. One study found that adding online coaching to digital platforms was popular and helped users stay engaged and achieve better results. Another study demonstrated that AI can manage up to 90% of coaching tasks, making these tools highly efficient for ongoing support. Additionally, telehealth coaching has proven to improve the overall health and well-being of cancer survivors. These findings suggest that this type of coaching could enhance communication and support for young cancer survivors in their social interactions.36789
