What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial tests a new app called Smart Symptom Tracking ALEX, designed to help young adults monitor symptoms related to colorectal cancer. The app aims to simplify and improve the accuracy of tracking gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms compared to traditional paper logs. Participants will use either the app or paper logs for four weeks to determine which method better facilitates symptom communication. This trial suits adults aged 18-44 who are concerned about their GI health and can commit to a month-long tracking routine. As an unphased trial, it offers a unique opportunity to contribute to innovative research that could enhance symptom tracking for young adults.

Do I have to stop taking my current medications for the trial?

The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications.

What prior data suggests that the Smart Symptom Tracking ALEX app is safe for tracking GI symptoms?

Research has shown that the Smart Symptom Tracking ALEX app is generally safe for users. Similar health apps have been used without major safety issues. Historically, people have used these kinds of apps without significant problems. These apps help users track symptoms and improve communication with their doctors. Reports of serious side effects are absent, and the apps are designed to be user-friendly and helpful. This suggests the ALEX app is likely safe for young adults who want to track their gastrointestinal health symptoms.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about the Smart Symptom Tracking ALEX app for colorectal cancer because it offers a tech-savvy, user-friendly way to monitor symptoms. Unlike traditional methods like paper logs, this app provides real-time tracking and sends automated reminders to help patients stay on top of their symptom management. It's designed to improve patients' engagement and potentially enhance communication with healthcare providers, leading to more personalized and timely care. This digital approach represents a shift towards integrating technology into daily health management, which could make a significant difference in patient outcomes.

What evidence suggests that the Smart Symptom Tracking ALEX app is effective for monitoring GI symptoms in young adults?

Research has shown that digital health tools, such as the Smart Symptom Tracking ALEX app, can effectively track symptoms in people with colorectal cancer. In this trial, participants will either use the Smart Symptom Tracking ALEX app or complete paper logs for symptom tracking. One study found that apps for symptom tracking make it easier for patients to report and manage their symptoms, potentially improving their care. Another study indicated that these digital tools encourage patients to take a more active role in their care and provide personalized follow-up. Additionally, tracking symptoms reported by patients is linked to better overall cancer care. These findings suggest that the Smart Symptom Tracking ALEX app could be a valuable tool for young adults to monitor and share their gastrointestinal symptoms.12346
