Study for Young Onset Colorectal Cancer
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial aims to understand young onset colorectal cancer (YOCRC) by collecting samples and health information from both affected individuals and healthy participants. The focus is on creating a database to gain better insights into this type of cancer. Individuals with YOCRC who have had or are planning procedures like colonoscopies, as well as healthy individuals scheduled for standard colonoscopies, are good candidates. Recent antibiotic use or a history of certain bowel diseases may disqualify participants. As an unphased study, this trial offers a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research that could lead to better understanding and treatment of YOCRC.
Will I have to stop taking my current medications?
The trial does not specify if you need to stop taking your current medications, but if you are providing a stool sample, you must not have used antibiotics in the last 6 months.
Why are researchers excited about this trial?
Researchers are excited about this trial because it aims to uncover important insights into young onset colorectal cancer (YOCRC), a condition where standard treatments like surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation may not always be effective for younger patients. This trial is unique as it doesn't test a specific treatment but instead focuses on understanding the disease's underlying mechanisms, which could lead to more precise and effective therapies in the future. By identifying unique biological markers and genetic factors associated with YOCRC, this research could pave the way for tailored treatment options that specifically address the needs of younger individuals with colorectal cancer.
