RAMP Program for Chronic Pain
(RAMP Trial)
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial aims to help Veterans manage chronic pain by exploring the connection between the mind and body. Participants will learn techniques to better control their pain through remote sessions. The trial includes two groups: one participates in the RAMP mind-body program (a therapeutic approach), and the other continues with their usual care. Those who have experienced chronic pain regularly over the past three months and live in rural areas might be a good fit. Participants need internet access and must be willing to engage in online sessions.
As an unphased trial, this study offers a unique opportunity to explore innovative pain management techniques that could enhance participants' quality of life.
Do I have to stop taking my current medications for the trial?
The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications. It's best to discuss this with the trial coordinators or your doctor.
What prior data suggests that the RAMP Program is safe for managing chronic pain?
Research has shown that the RAMP Program, which uses mind-body techniques to manage chronic pain, is safe for participants. An initial study reported no serious side effects among participants, indicating the program is generally well-received. Additionally, 90% of participants expressed satisfaction with the program, demonstrating its acceptability. The program includes activities such as mindfulness and pain education, which are typically safe and gentle.12345
Why are researchers excited about this trial?
The RAMP Program for chronic pain is unique because it focuses on a comprehensive approach to managing pain rather than relying solely on medication. Unlike standard treatments such as opioids, NSAIDs, or physical therapy, RAMP integrates physical, psychological, and lifestyle changes to address the root causes of chronic pain. Researchers are excited because this method could provide more sustainable pain relief and improve overall quality of life without the side effects associated with long-term medication use. By empowering patients with self-management techniques, the RAMP Program has the potential to revolutionize how chronic pain is treated.
What evidence suggests that the RAMP Program is effective for managing chronic pain?
Research has shown that the RAMP mind-body program, which participants in this trial may receive, can help manage chronic pain, especially for rural Veterans. In past studies, 90% of participants reported satisfaction with the program. Early results indicate that the program is practical and well-received. It includes pain education, mindfulness, specific exercises, and strategies to change thoughts about pain. These tools aim to gradually reduce the impact of pain on daily life.12367
