What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial explores whether chiropractic ankle manipulation can boost squat jump height and improve ankle movement. It seeks to determine if adjusting the ankle helps athletes jump higher and if a connection exists between ankle adjustments and better ankle flexibility. Participants will either receive a chiropractic ankle adjustment or rest quietly to observe any differences. The trial seeks individuals aged 18 to 35 who exercise recreationally, such as playing sports or doing interval training, at least three times a week. Those with recent leg or spine injuries or those involved in water sports are not eligible.

As an unphased trial, this study offers participants the chance to contribute to understanding the potential benefits of chiropractic care in athletic performance.

What prior data suggests that chiropractic ankle manipulation is safe for improving athletic performance?

Research has shown that chiropractic ankle manipulation is usually safe. A review of various studies found that chiropractic treatments, such as those used in sports, can be beneficial with minimal risk. Many athletes report improvements in joint alignment and movement after these treatments. One study on spinal manipulation found it might boost strength without causing major side effects. Although specific data on the safety of ankle manipulation is limited, the overall evidence suggests it is a safe method to enhance sports performance.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Chiropractic Ankle Manipulation is unique because it offers a non-invasive, hands-on approach aimed at enhancing ankle mobility and athletic performance. Unlike traditional treatments like physical therapy exercises, braces, or even surgery, this method uses a specific chiropractic technique called Lower Extremity Manipulation (LEM). LEM involves a quick, targeted thrust to the ankle joint, designed to improve dorsiflexion, which is crucial for athletes. Researchers are excited about this technique because it promises to quickly increase joint flexibility and function, potentially speeding up recovery and boosting performance without the need for prolonged therapy or invasive procedures.

What evidence suggests that chiropractic ankle manipulation is effective for improving squat jump performance?

Research has shown that chiropractic ankle adjustments might enhance athletic performance. For example, a case study found that a teenage athlete with a long-term ankle sprain experienced less pain and improved mobility after chiropractic care. Other studies suggest that these treatments can enhance joint movement and function, which could benefit sports performance. In this trial, participants in the Chiropractic Ankle Manipulation group will receive specific adjustments to improve ankle movement and alignment. Although the impact on squat jump performance is still under investigation, improved ankle movement and alignment suggest potential benefits.13567

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

This trial is for people interested in improving athletic performance, specifically squat jump height. Participants should be able to safely perform squat jumps and have no injuries or conditions that would prevent them from taking part.
