What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial aims to help clinicians from University of Pennsylvania Health Systems and Massachusetts General Hospital manage burnout using Sudarshan Kriya Yoga (SKY) Breathing and Sahaj Meditation. Participants will learn breathing techniques and meditation practices designed to reduce stress and improve emotional well-being. The trial compares this program to a Health Education Program covering general health topics. Ideal candidates are clinicians interested in incorporating daily relaxation exercises into their routine and who do not already practice regular mind-body programs like yoga or meditation.

As an unphased trial, this study provides clinicians with a unique opportunity to explore innovative stress-reduction techniques that could enhance their personal and professional lives.

Will I have to stop taking my current medications?

The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications. It's best to discuss this with the trial coordinators or your doctor.

What prior data suggests that Sudarshan Kriya Yoga (SKY) Breathing and Sahaj Meditation is safe for reducing clinician burnout?

Research has shown that Sudarshan Kriya Yoga (SKY) Breathing and Sahaj Meditation are generally safe for participants. Studies have found that SKY effectively reduces stress and burnout without major side effects. For instance, one study reported that international doctors who practiced SKY experienced better wellness and less burnout. Another study found that SKY lowered psychological distress and improved mental health in various ways. These findings suggest that SKY is a well-tolerated practice with no reported negative effects in these studies, making it a promising option for those looking to improve their well-being.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about Sudarshan Kriya Yoga (SKY) Breathing and Sahaj Meditation because they offer a unique approach to tackling burnout, which is often managed with therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy or medication. Unlike these traditional methods, SKY and Sahaj use cyclical breathing techniques and guided meditation to promote emotional regulation and mental clarity. Additionally, these practices incorporate Cognitive Reframing Tools, which aid in shifting negative thought patterns, offering a holistic method to manage stress and emotional well-being. This combination of breathing, meditation, and cognitive tools could provide a refreshing, non-pharmacological alternative for those experiencing burnout.

What evidence suggests that Sudarshan Kriya Yoga might be an effective treatment for burnout?

Research shows that Sudarshan Kriya Yoga (SKY) Breathing and Sahaj Meditation, which participants in this trial may receive, can help reduce burnout and improve mental well-being. Studies have found that practicing SKY for a few months lowers stress and increases mindfulness. For example, doctors worldwide who participated in an online SKY program reported feeling much better and less burned out. This practice uses specific breathing techniques and meditation to manage stress and improve mental health. Evidence suggests that SKY could be a helpful tool for those dealing with burnout.12345
