Mobile Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Stroke Recovery
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial tests a mobile app called Maya, which provides cognitive behavioral therapy to help stroke survivors manage depression and anxiety. Researchers aim to determine if the app is user-friendly and effective during the early stages of stroke recovery. Individuals who have experienced a stroke in the last month and feel anxious or depressed might be suitable for this study, particularly if they can use an iPhone or iPad.
As an unphased trial, this study offers participants the chance to contribute to innovative research that could enhance mental health support for stroke survivors.
What prior data suggests that this mobile cognitive behavioral therapy app is safe for stroke recovery?
Research has shown that mobile apps for cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), such as Maya, are generally safe and user-friendly. Studies have found that these apps can reduce anxiety and depression symptoms without major side effects. Specifically, one study demonstrated that a similar CBT app significantly reduced anxiety in young adults with mental health issues, with no serious problems reported. This suggests that using a mobile app for CBT is a safe option for many individuals. As it is not a medication, it avoids the side effects associated with drugs. Overall, current evidence supports the safety of mobile CBT apps for treating mental health.12345
Why are researchers excited about this trial?
The Mobile Cognitive Behavioral Therapy App is unique because it offers a convenient digital approach to helping stroke survivors manage post-stroke depression, anxiety, and emotional challenges. Unlike traditional therapies that require in-person sessions, this app allows users to engage with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) modules anytime and anywhere, making mental health support more accessible. Researchers are excited about this treatment due to its potential to reach more individuals, reduce barriers to care, and provide personalized strategies at the user's fingertips.
What evidence suggests that this mobile cognitive behavioral therapy app is effective for stroke recovery?
Research has shown that mobile apps for cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), such as "Maya," can reduce anxiety and depression in stroke survivors. One study found that a similar CBT app significantly reduced anxiety in young adults with mental health issues. Another study suggested that mobile apps can complement traditional stroke recovery methods. In this trial, participants will use the "Maya" app, which offers lessons and strategies tailored for those facing emotional challenges after a stroke, aiming to improve mental health. These findings indicate that the app could be a valuable tool for stroke patients managing depression and anxiety.12367
