What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial aims to evaluate how effectively a new treatment, NNC0487-0111, aids individuals with obesity and sleep apnea in losing weight and improving sleep. Participants will receive weekly injections of either the treatment or a placebo, which contains no active ingredients. Those with moderate-to-severe sleep apnea who are not currently using a machine for breathing support during sleep may qualify. The trial seeks to determine if this new treatment can safely promote weight loss and enhance sleep quality. As a Phase 3 trial, this treatment is in the final stage before FDA approval, providing participants an opportunity to contribute to potentially groundbreaking advancements in obesity and sleep apnea treatment.

Do I need to stop my current medications for the trial?

The trial does not specify if you need to stop taking your current medications. However, if you are on treatments like GLP-1 receptor agonists or similar, you may need to stop those before screening.

Is there any evidence suggesting that this trial's treatments are likely to be safe?

Previous studies have shown that NNC0487-0111 is safe for humans. People with excess body weight and type 2 diabetes tolerated the treatment well, with most side effects being mild and manageable. Another study involving individuals who are overweight or have obesity found similar results, confirming the treatment's general safety. Ongoing research continues to assess its safety, but current data supports its tolerability. This treatment is currently in a Phase 3 trial, indicating a substantial amount of existing safety information. However, monitoring new findings remains important.12345

Why do researchers think this study treatment might be promising for obesity?

Unlike standard obesity treatments, which often include lifestyle changes and medications like orlistat, liraglutide, or phentermine, NNC0487-0111 offers a novel approach by being administered subcutaneously once a week. This makes it potentially more convenient for patients compared to daily oral medications. Additionally, NNC0487-0111 is designed to work in combination with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, which could enhance its effectiveness. Researchers are excited because this treatment might provide a more effective and user-friendly option for managing obesity.

What evidence suggests that NNC0487-0111 might be an effective treatment for obesity?

Research has shown that NNC0487-0111, also known as amycretin, may aid weight loss in people with obesity. Studies have found that participants using this treatment experienced significant weight loss. In this trial, participants will receive one of two dose levels of NNC0487-0111 or a placebo, along with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Amycretin combines two hormones, GLP-1 and amylin, which help control hunger and boost metabolism. Previous trials demonstrated its safety and tolerability in individuals with a higher body mass index (BMI). These findings support further research into its effectiveness for weight loss and improving metabolic health.13678
