Orelabrutinib for Multiple Sclerosis

This trial tests a new medication, orelabrutinib, for individuals with secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS). The goal is to determine if this medication can slow the progression of MS symptoms compared to a placebo (a pill with no active drug). Suitable participants should have SPMS without recent MS attacks and have experienced worsening symptoms over the past two years. As a Phase 3 trial, this study represents the final step before FDA approval, providing participants an opportunity to contribute to potentially groundbreaking treatment advancements.

The trial does not specify if you need to stop your current medications, but you cannot participate if you are on anticoagulation, antiplatelet therapy, or have taken certain medications affecting liver enzymes within 14 days before the trial.

Researchers are excited because Orelabrutinib's precise targeting could lead to fewer side effects and improved outcomes for patients, offering a promising alternative to existing therapies.

Research has shown that orelabrutinib may help treat multiple sclerosis (MS). In one study, patients who took 80 mg of orelabrutinib daily experienced a 92.3% reduction in brain lesions after 24 weeks, indicating a significant decrease in disease activity. The treatment targets a specific protein in the brain to help manage MS progression. These results emerged from earlier trials with patients who have relapsing-remitting MS, a type where symptoms fluctuate.
