FLT201 for Gaucher Disease
(GALILEO-3 Trial)
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial tests a new treatment called FLT201, an experimental therapy for individuals with Gaucher disease Type 1, a condition affecting fat breakdown in the body. The trial aims to determine if FLT201 is safe and effective after patients discontinue their usual treatments, such as enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) or substrate reduction therapy (SRT). It targets individuals who have managed their Gaucher disease with these therapies for at least two years without interruptions. Participants should maintain stable hemoglobin levels and platelet counts, crucial for oxygen transport and blood clotting. This trial may suit those ready to explore a new treatment approach. As a Phase 3 trial, it represents the final step before FDA approval, offering participants the opportunity to contribute to a potentially groundbreaking treatment.
Do I have to stop taking my current medications for the trial?
Yes, you will need to stop taking your current enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) or substrate reduction therapy (SRT) to participate in this trial.
Is there any evidence suggesting that FLT201 is likely to be safe for humans?
Research has shown that FLT201 was safe in earlier studies. Data from these trials indicate that participants generally tolerated a single dose of FLT201 well. No major safety issues emerged over a two-year follow-up period. Additionally, the treatment improved important disease indicators. This suggests that the treatment could be safe for humans, although individual experiences may vary.12345
Why do researchers think this study treatment might be promising for Gaucher disease?
FLT201 is unique because it is administered as a single intravenous infusion, which is a novel approach for Gaucher Disease treatment. Unlike the current standard treatments, such as enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) or substrate reduction therapy (SRT), which often require regular infusions or oral dosing, FLT201 aims to simplify the treatment process with just one infusion. Researchers are excited about FLT201 because it targets the disease with an advanced therapy investigational medicinal product (ATIMP), potentially leading to more effective and longer-lasting results.
What evidence suggests that FLT201 might be an effective treatment for Gaucher disease?
Research has shown that FLT201 might be a helpful treatment for Gaucher disease Type 1. In earlier studies, patients who received FLT201 had stable or reduced liver and spleen sizes, which are often enlarged in this disease. Additionally, important indicators like lyso-Gb1 levels and platelet counts, which reflect disease severity, improved after treatment with FLT201. A single dose of FLT201 maintained enzyme activity in early trials, suggesting it could provide long-lasting benefits. These findings offer hope for people with Gaucher disease Type 1, who often struggle with current treatments. Participants in this trial will receive FLT201 as a single intravenous infusion to further evaluate its effectiveness and safety.13678
Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?
This trial is for adults (18+) with Gaucher disease type 1 who have been on stable enzyme or substrate reduction therapy for at least 2 years, have steady blood counts, and meet other health requirements. People with certain antibodies, abnormal labs, other types of Gaucher disease, prior gene/cell therapies, organ transplants, or recent pregnancy can't join.Inclusion Criteria
