What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial aims to study the behavior of the radiotracer [18F]MODAG-009 in the body using PET imaging. Healthy volunteers will receive a single dose of the radiotracer and then undergo a full-body scan. The goal is to gather information on the tracer's movement and processing in the body. Individuals in good health, aged 18 to 60, who can follow study instructions, might be suitable candidates. As an Early Phase 1 trial, this research focuses on understanding the radiotracer's function in people, offering participants the chance to contribute to groundbreaking medical research.

Do I have to stop taking my current medications for the trial?

Yes, you will need to stop taking any prescription drugs, herbal supplements, and over-the-counter medications (except for occasional acetaminophen) before joining the trial. Prescription drugs and herbal supplements must be stopped 4 weeks before, and over-the-counter medications 2 weeks before the trial starts.

Is there any evidence suggesting that [¹⁸F]MODAG-009 is likely to be safe for humans?

Research has shown that [¹⁸F]MODAG-009 underwent safety testing in earlier studies. These studies included various safety checks such as physical exams, monitoring vital signs, heart tests (ECGs), and lab tests. Researchers observed participants for any side effects on the day of imaging and shortly after. Results suggest that [¹⁸F]MODAG-009 is generally well-tolerated, although it sometimes affects unintended areas of the brain. However, no major negative effects have been reported, indicating it appears safe for use in humans so far.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about [¹⁸F]MODAG-009 because it offers a novel way to visualize brain activity through PET imaging, potentially enhancing our understanding of neurological conditions. Unlike traditional imaging agents that might not specifically highlight particular brain proteins, [¹⁸F]MODAG-009 is designed to target and bind to specific proteins associated with neurodegenerative diseases. This specificity could provide clearer, more detailed images, helping doctors to better diagnose and track the progression of brain disorders. By improving the precision of brain imaging, this treatment could lead to earlier detection and more personalized treatment plans for patients.

What evidence suggests that [18F]MODAG-009 PET imaging is effective for healthy adults?

Research has shown that [18F]MODAG-009 is under study for its ability to highlight alpha-synuclein, a protein linked to certain brain disorders. Previous studies have examined its capacity to reveal these proteins in the brain using PET scans, which help doctors assess organ and tissue function. Some studies suggest that while [18F]MODAG-009 can target alpha-synuclein, imaging results may appear similar between healthy individuals and those with brain disorders. This trial will administer a single intravenous dose of [18F]MODAG-009 to healthy volunteers before PET imaging. Understanding its effects in healthy volunteers is crucial for developing better imaging tools for brain health.12356
