What is the purpose of this trial?

Studies proposed in this application will image mitochondrial Complex-I in cocaine use disorder (CUD) and matched healthy controls

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

This study is for adults with cocaine use disorder and healthy individuals without the disorder. Participants should be generally healthy, able to undergo PET scans, and not have conditions or medications that could interfere with brain imaging.

Inclusion Criteria

Cocaine use disorders (CUD): fulfill DSM-5 criteria for moderate or severe (4+ criteria) cocaine use disorder
I am between 18 and 45 years old and in good health.
I am between 18 and 45 years old and have a cocaine use disorder.

Exclusion Criteria

Cocaine use disorders (CUD): No comorbid DSM-5 alcohol, opioids, sedative-hypnotics, hallucinogens, and inhalant use disorders in the past 12 months; subjects with moderate to severe DSM-5 cannabis use disorder excluded
Cocaine use disorders (CUD): No lifetime DSM-5 schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, and developmental disorders
I have not had major depression or severe anxiety in the past year.

Timeline for a Trial Participant

Screening

Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial

Baseline Imaging

Participants undergo baseline PET scans to measure mitochondrial Complex-I activity

Follow-up

Participants are monitored for safety and effectiveness after imaging

Trial Overview

The trial uses a special PET scan with [F-18]BCPP-EF to look at mitochondrial Complex-I activity in the brains of people with cocaine use disorder compared to healthy controls.
